We sincerely appreciate those who have participated in the JIDA Design Museum Selection project, the visitors of this exhibition, and the readers of this catalog for supporting our 10th anniversary. This project is to announce the result of our selection of the latest collection in the JIDA Design Museum. We select products based on the nominations by JIDA members and also by those who have good knowledge in the world of design, and then we choose products which contribute to the value of design (theme). New products can also be chosen, if they were "inquisitive" within that year. In 1997, the "JIDA Design Museum" was opened in Shinshuu Shinnmachi in Nagano as a design museum, and it is run and curated by the designers themselves. It celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2007, and the year after, the Muse collection, in which the 1st building will be placed has been renovated due to the construction involving the widening the National Highway 19 sidewalk. Furthermore, the adjacent alcohol storage was also renovated and became the "Museum for the Warehouse Town". In the year 2008, the Design Museum Selection Vol. 9 Introduction Exhibition (AXIS, Tokyo), the Toyono- chou tour, the Shinshuu Shinnmachi tour, and also the "Oritatamu (to hold)" temporary exhibition at JIDA Design Museum No.1 have been held. Moreover, collections and data that were donated through the Selection projects are being utilized for design and for cultural shared property, for instance, the loan to the trustee exhibition by Messepia in the Niigata prefecture / Japan called "JIDA Design Museum Selection Vol. 9 and the Products that Flourished in the World (tentative title) ". Henceforth, we would like to work together with "D8 - the Committee to Prepare for the Establishment of the Japan Design Museum" (the Design 8 Consultation Group) to participate in developing the environment (place) where a wide range of collections such as interior, graphic, and designed products from the design museum stock can be effectively utilized.
