竹は生まれて1年で78メートルにも達するほど成長が早い。その事が今エコロジー素材として注目を集めている。これまでにも竹を素材とした道具などは日本の伝統的な茶道具をはじめ様々あるが、この「TENSION」は竹の集成材という新たな加工素材を用いて、新しいライフスタイルへの提案とエコロジーを両立させる事を可能にした。竹の特徴であるしなりを有効に活かして柔らかな座面のすわり心地を作り出しているのが最大の特徴である。また、竹は繊維が平行なため長い方向には強くしなって持ちこたえるが直行方向には破断しやすい。構造を工夫することでその短所を上手く克服し、強く、新しい椅子を作りあげている。今後、さらに竹の可能性が広がって行くであろうことを予感させる商品だ。

| Bamboo grows at an amazing rate of 7-8 meters a year. This fact has recently attracted attention to bamboo as an ecological material. There are many traditional Japanese tools for the tea ceremony that are made of bamboo. < TENSION >, however, adopted a new material that is commonly known as "laminated lumber", and for which here bamboo is used instead of wood. This allows consistency between the concept of a new lifestyle and ecology. The strongest characteristic of the product is the soft, comfortable feeling that can be experienced when seated. This was achieved by using the unique flexibility of bamboo. Bamboo fibers run parallel to each other, which results in a high degree of flexibility along the fiber. Against the fiber, however, it can be broken easily. By modifying this structure, the weak point was overcome and a strong new chair was developed. This product could be an indication that the use of bamboo will potentially increase in the near future. |
