世界初「有機ELテレビ」のデザインはそれに相応しく誰しもがその画面の薄さの驚きを体感できるよう、どの方向から見られても美しく見える、全方向に配慮されたスタイルとなっている。技術の進歩によって物事の概念が覆ることはしばしば起こることだが、それが上手く受け取り側に伝わらないと「いつの間にか世の中が変わっていた」などということに陥ってしまう。しかしこのXEL-1は、有機EL独特の美しい映像と今までの概念では考えられない程に薄い画面という「世界初」を「浮遊感」という演出方法で上手く伝えており、あらためてデザインの重要さに気づかされる。かつてのブラウン管の時代から考えれば、ここまで薄く美しくなることをだれが予想できたであろう。今後様々な有機ELテレビが世に出て来ることが予測されるが、それらがどのような表現でデザインを昇華させてくるのか楽しみである。

| The world's first organic LED TV was designed to look beautiful from every angle and to surprise everyone by the flatness of its display. The development of new technologies can sometimes change the appearance of things, but if the consumers don't understand such new developments, they are likely to think that the world has changed without them noticing it. However, the < XEL-1 > has succeeded in sending the message of being "a first" by its "floating" appearance and once again shows, how important design is. Thinking of old television sets, who could have imagined that a TV could be become this thin and beautiful?
