	一目見て驚いた。しかし、ベンチや椅子といった概念を打ち破る造形ではあるものの、少し眺めているうちにその意図が分かってきて、今度は「なるほど....」と深く感心させられた。この特徴的な『ねじれ』は、使用者のさまざまな体勢を寛容に受け入れてくれる。互いが両端に腰掛けたり、ねじれを利用し寝そべったりと、相手とのコミュニケーションの深さを心理的に調整できるのである。また空間に置かれたそれは、椅子としての機能だけではなくオブジェとしての造形的美しさをも兼ね備えている。そしてこのネーミングだ。一見派手に見えるもののどこか落ち着きのある漆器的『和』を感じ、ねじれの造形に至っては正に『帯』をイメージさせる。デザイナーの深い見識を感じさせる作品だ。

At first glance I was surprised. But looking at the < Obi > a little bit longer, I came to admire the intention behind the form, which does away with the usual design concepts of benches and chairs. The special feature of being "twisted" allows for accommodating the various postures corresponding with the users' state of mind. The user's can, so to speak, "psychologically adjust their depth of communication": So, one user can, for example, sit on either one of the ends or lie on the chair using the twist. Furthermore, the bench does not only function as seating, but has a beauty of its own as an object due to its modeling. As far as the name of the product is concerned, it communicates a certain gaiety, but the lacquer ware also emanates a certain composure associated with WA, a Japanese principle of harmony. Furthermore, the twisted shape reminds us of an Obi, a traditional Japanese sash worn with a kimono, for example. This product shows the designer's deep discernment.
