このところ海外へ出向くことが多いが、移動中などぼんやりとその車窓から街を眺 めているとひときわ目を引く美しい車がある。走り去るリア中央にレクサスのマーク。他車とは明らかに一線を画す、軟らかで張りのある美しい外観面と落着きのあるスタイル。カジュアルなライフスタイルが好きな小生が、いわゆる高級セダン というものに心奪われた瞬間だ。＜レクサスGS450h＞は、トヨタ車環境性能の中心的技術であるハイブリッドシステムを搭載する。後輪を駆動するモーター（FRハイブリッドは世界初／同社発表）は200PSの最高出力を有し、発進時から力強く、環境に負担をかけずに走り抜く。またハイブリッド駆動の様子は運転席で 視覚的にも確認でき、タコメーター代わりに装備されるハイブリッドシステムインジケーターを参照し、ドライバーがエコ走行に積極的に関与できる。トヨタ初の生産型乗用車「トヨダAA型（1936年）」から一貫した高品質への情熱をレクサスブランドで正に世界へ問いかけているように感じる。将来的に見ると、ハイブリッドシステムは次代への繋ぎ役となるのであろうが、しかし現代の重要な環境技術でありレクサスブランドと共に美しい環境車のシンボルとして世界に認知されて行くのではないだろうか。

| Recently I have been abroad man times. When I am in a new town, I sometimes look at cars. And in such a situation, I found an especially beautiful car. Running to the rear of the car, I found the LEXUS label. This car is very different from other cars: Its beautiful appearance is soft and compact at the same time, and the style is characterized by a certain sense of composure. Generally I like a casual style, but this high-class sedan immediately conquered my heart. The < LEXUS GS 450h > is equipped with a hybrid system that is the central technology of environmentally friendly and efficient cars by Toyota. This sedan is, according to Toyota, the first rear-wheel-drive car worldwide, and has a power of 200PS. From the very start it is strong and environmentally sound. It also features a device on the driver's side, the so-called Eco Drive Indicator, that shows when the car is driven in a fuel-efficient manner - and thus reducing Co2 emission -, as it is made possible by the hybrid drive system. With this indicator, drivers can excellently contribute to environmental friendly travelling. Since the production of Toyota's first car, the Model AA passenger car, in 1936, there has been a passion for high quality that is consistent with the Lexus brand. I feel that with this passion Toyota raises important issues in the world. Looking into the future, the hybrid system will probably be an integral part of the next generation of cars. But nowadays, it is already an important environmental technology, and perhaps it will be acknowledged with the LEXUS sedan which is a symbol for the beautiful, eco-friendly car in the world. |
