携帯電話端末としてはかなり大きめの3.7インチタッチパネル式液晶画面や、PCと同様でもあるQWERTY配列のキーボードをスライド式で備えるなど充実した入力インターフェイスを持ち、なおかつPHSとしての通話や通信機能に加え無線LAN機能も内蔵し、またOSはWindows Mobileを搭載するなど、非常に多機能である。それ故に携帯電話機として考えるとかなり大きめで、手ぶらで持ち歩くにはおよそ限界のサイズではないかと思われる程ではあるが、全体を曲線的に纏められポケットへの出し入れはスムーズに行うことができるなど、限られた条件下で「携帯」することに拘ったスタイルであると感じられる。このW-ZERO3は携帯端末機の一つの到達点であり、また国内スマートフォンとしては一つの始まりではないかと思う。

| The product combines many functions. So it features, for instance, a 3.7" touch screen LCD. It also comes equipped with a QWERTY keyboard that slides out from under the front panel, turning it into a PC with a complete input interface. At the same time, it operates as a phone and is, for example, compatible with communication services such as PHS and is equipped with built-in WLAN support. The operating system is Windows Mobile. Due to all this, it seems too big for a PDA phone. The size is nearly at the limit of comfortable one-hand use. But on the other hand, the body is very compact, and with its curved form, it can easily be put in and out of one's pocket. So it has indeed a particular style. Easy portability of this PDA phone is limited. The < W-ZERO 3 > marks one of the arrival points in the development of the portable terminal, while at the same time being the starting point for smart phones in Japan. |
