＜九州新幹線つばめ800系＞のエクステリアデザインはホワイトカラーの精悍で流れ るようなロングノーズボディーと黒と漆色（うるしいろ）のスワロールーフで構成されている。また、明るい九州の自然環境を表現した客室空間はホワイトカラーを基調としながら壁面に柿渋色、ドアに古代漆を使い洗面室には九州伝統の技を生かした八代藺草（やつしろいぐさ）の縄のれんを使うなど落ち着きのある格調高いインテリアデザインである。
水戸岡氏はJR九州で活躍する「特急かもめ」等数多くの魅力的な車両をデザインして いるが、特にこの＜九州新幹線つばめ800系＞は氏の代表作の一つになるのではないだろうか。 |

| The exterior design of the < KYUSHU SHINKANSEN SWALLOW 800 SERIES > is formed with slick white color long-nosed body with black and the lacquer color swallow shaped roof. The interior design of the train reflects Kyushu's bright sunlight and natural environment. It also incorporates Japan's unique aesthetics, Kyushu's traditional materials with exceptional artisan skills for the interior. For instance, persimmon tannin color for the wall, ancient lacquer for the door and Kyushu traditional rope curtain from Yatsushiroigusa for the bathroom are used. JR Kyushu's hospitability is embodied in these noble and stylish passenger cabins with extensive use of more traditional materials, including wood for the seats. They feature beautifully arranged wooden seating that offers a warm welcome. Mitooka, a designer of the train, is known for extraordinary designs such as the JR Kyushu. This < TSUBAME (swallow) 800 > will probably be one of his representative works. |
