バッティングヘルメットは、これまでの数々の怪我を教訓に耳や後頭部などを覆う形状に変化し安全性を確保してきたが、反面、プレーヤー頭部快適性や使いやすさは後手に回っていたのではないだろうか。このヘルメットを見ていると強くそれを感じてしまう。この＜バッティングヘルメットBHL160＞はそこに大幅な改善を図っている。シャープでスピード感のあるスタイリングに合わせるように、所々に大きな通気孔を設けており、炎天下においても恐らく十分な効果を発揮することだろう。また、保護具の効果を最大限に得るには正しく着用することが必要だが、このヘルメットのひさし形状が僅かに折れているのは、ヘルメットをかぶる際に体の中心に合わせるガイドのためだという。ひさしを持つときのプレーヤーの指の形を的確に捉えた、持ちやすい形状でもある。プレーヤーのちょっとした心理に迫った心憎い気配りだ。デザインは二の次に思える保護具にこそ、プレーヤーの心を正しく理解したモノづくりが必要であることをあらためて知る思いだ。
