ブラザー工業はこの商品の開発で、より鮮明なコンセプトで市場へのアプローチを始めたと思える。それは、前セレクションVol.5でも取り上げた「刺しゅうワッペン作成機ワッペンくらぶ」にも見られる、刺しゅうへのこだわりとその楽しみの提供だ。
それまでソーイングなどした事のないヤングママでも、子供への想いを原動力に作りあげられる刺しゅう機能付きミシンを目指しているのだ。 面倒だった糸掛けの簡素化、使い易さを追求した糸カセットの正面レイアウト、使い方を分かりやすく案内するディスプレー、そして10万円を切る価格と、「楽しんでもらう」というコンセプト実現のためデザイナーとエンジニアのこだわりが大きく貢献しているようだ。 日本では、万延元年（1860年）米国より渡来したソーイングマシーンの「マシーン」が訛り「ミシン」となったというが、今後はメカニズムだけの時代も終わり「使う楽しさ、作る喜び」を助長するためのデジタル化が進むであろう。 新次元に移行するミシンに「使いやすさ」と「分かりやすさ」を与える「道具デザイナー」の今後の仕事が楽しみだ。 |

| Brother Industries Co., Ltd. began the approach for a market that has a clearer concept with the development of appliances in the sector of home embroidery and sewing machines. We can find it in products such as the "Emboroidered Applique Creator Applique Station" that had been included in JIDA'S Selection Vol. 5. As for the < Innovis N80 >, it is said that one enjoys using it, and it aims to be a useful sewing machine with an embroidery function. It is easy to use for a young mother who has never tried sewing before. With this machine, she can make something nice for her children. The simplification of the thread guard must be considered a difficult task. The design of the threading cassette developed here pursues the idea of easy use. Also the display is an easy-to-use guide. And the price was reduced to under \100,000. These points show the significant contribution of the designer and the engineer. They tried to actualize the concept that one enjoys using this machine. In 1860, the sewing machine crossed the sea from the United States to Japan. Later on, the machine was called "Mishin" in Japanese. I think that it will end the age in which merely mechanical functions are important and that it will advance the "enjoyment of using it" and the "joy in making". I am looking forward to the future work of the designer. The sewing machine will move into a new dimension. The "tool designer" will develop functions for the machine that are "useful" and "easy-to-understand". I will watch out for the work of the designer in the future. |
