デジタルカメラが登場し、新しい時代の象徴的な商品として、そのデザインの可能性が色々と検討されている。小型・薄型のデジタルカメラの形式が今いくつか出ている。
その中でレンズ部を回転させる機構を持っている薄型デジタルカメラとして、本機は携帯性と自由自在な使い方を充分に持ちながら、そのデザインは際立っている。 これは一つの正解だ。 スイバルレンズ機構によりその撮影の自由度は大きく広がっており、また使用しないときのレンズ部の格納も見事な収まりをみせている。 フルメタルでつくられた四角く未来的なイメージ、使用時のレンズ部の形と動きはモダンデザインの見本ともいえる。このカメラを見ていると、デザイナーの気持ちがみえてくる。これでどうだと！と言っているように感じる。 |

| Looking at digital cameras, the possibilities of design explored there are characterized by the idea to symbolize a commodity of a new age. Several types of small and slim digital cameras have now been introduced to the market. Featuring all standard characteristics of a portable camera for comfortable and easy use, the < NIKON COOLPIX SQ > is especially distinguished by its swivel lens. In my opinion, the design solution for this feature is outstanding: The swivel lens offers enhanced flexibility of free-angle picture-taking, and when not in use, it is protected by a beautifully designed housing. The square part of the lens gives it a futuristic touch, as does the all-metal body. Form and movement make it a good example of modern design. When you look at this camera, the feeling of the designer is visible: ''How about this!'' - that is what he must have said. |
