ブラウン社のシェービングへのチャレンジは、創立者マックスブラウンが考案した1号機『S-50』（1950年発売）から始まる。その後ドライヤーなどの理美容製品を充実させながらキッチン用品やオーディオ、映像分野へとその製品群を広げて行った。これら製品デザインを担当したReinhold M Weiss、Dieter Rams（b：1932）、Dietrich Lubs（b：1938）などのデザイナーが創り出す精緻な造形は、当時デザインを学ぶ私にとっての教科書的存在であり、そしてその魅力は今日に至っても決して失うことはない。
シェービングパフォーマンスへのこだわりはその後もブラウン社の基幹商品としてのシェーバーを育ててきた。「格納式キワゾリ刃」「首振りヘッド」「全自動洗浄」などオリジナリティー溢れるアイディアと正当とでもいうべきデザインで、この種のカテゴリーにおいて常にリーダー役を担っている。 ＜Activator BS8595＞は「ブラウン史上約50年目の画期的な革命」（同社パンフレットより）という独自の網刃パターンを持つ。「くせヒゲ剃り」「スピーディー」「肌への優しさ」を追求した末の技術革新だ。デザインも、ラバーサポートやサイドグリップのマットカラーと対比したクロム加工のメタル調ボディーが清潔感と新鮮さを漂わせ、朝僅かな男の時間を充実させてくれる。 |

| In 1950, the Braun Corporation encountered the challenge of shaving for the first time with the "S-50", a product devised by the company's founder, Max Brown. Later, Braun introduced other grooming products such as hair dryers, while, on the other hand, expanding their product portfolio. It currently ranges form kitchen appliances to products in the field of audio and images. The products designed by Reinhold M. Weiss, Dieter Rams (b. 1932) and Dietrich Lubs (b. 1938) were prime examples, and I encountered them in textbooks during my studies in design. They are still charming today. The prejudices towards shaving performance have to be given up after trying this basic commodity by the Braun Corporation. Features such as, for example, the newly developed housing of the blades, the oscillating shaver head and the automatic cleaning program, are original in their functionality and with regard to the appropriateness of the respective design solutions. They make Braun a leading company in this product category. The < Activator BS8595 > features a triple-stage shaving system, which, as stated in the company's pamphlet, testifies to "Braun's epoch-making design history of about 50-years". It is the result of technical research on shaving habits, kindness to the skin and speed. As for the design, the rubber part and the chrome body contrast with the mat color of the side grip. This gives a clean and fresh impression. And that completes the morning of every man. |
