兵井氏（本商品デザイナー）の友人Y氏は、近視が強く、フチの厚い眼鏡をかけていた。近視用レンズは度に比例しエッジが厚くなるという問題を抱えている。
そこで兵井氏はフレームの形状に影響されずにレンズを自由にフィッティングできる 構造の眼鏡のデザインを始めた。 これまでの眼鏡フレームにレンズを取り付ける場合、小売店で個人の瞳位置に合わせて光学中心を調整し固定するわけだが、考案した眼鏡はレンズの支持枠をメインフレームから切り離し、それらをアーム状のロッドを介して保持するためレンズを前後に調整できる。これにより瞳からの距離を短くし、視野角を保ちながらレンズを小さくする事に成功した。それはエッジの厚さを薄く見せられることを意味している。 こうしてできあがったものをY氏にモニターしてもらい、改良を重ねデザインバリエーションを増やし、福井県デザインセンターのデザイン助成金制度を利用して世に送り出す事ができた。 この歴史に残る眼鏡のアイデアは、彼らの強いパートナーシップによって生まれたのかもしれない。眼鏡シリーズ名＜Concept Y＞は、Y氏の名前に由来するという。 |

| Mr. Hyoi, the designer of this product, was a friend of Mr. Y, who suffered form severe myopia. The frame of his glasses became thicker and thicker. This became more and more of a problem. Then Mr. Hyoi tried to design glasses. The structure can be adjusted freely without affecting the form of the frame. As for lenses installed in conventional frames, they can be adjusted to individual position of the pupil and the optical center only at the retail store. But the glasses designed by Mr. Hyoi aimed at separating the frame supporting the lens from the main frame. He also designed the side piece in such a way that you can adjust the lenses in the front and back. Due to that, the design succeeds in making the lens small and positioning it only a short distance away from the pupil while maintaining the angle of vision. This also means that the thickness of the edges is thin. Monitored by Mr. Y, the product underwent repeated improvement and increased variation in design. Finally, the development was supported by a grant from Fukui Prefecture's design center, and thus it became possible to send it out to the world. Perhaps the idea for theses glasses, which remains history, was born of their strong partnership. As for the series' name, < Concept Y >, it was derived from the name Mr. Y. |
