この車の特徴の一つ「アクティブトップ」は、走りへの夢とそれを所有することの夢を、デザインでまとめ上げたものと言える。単に電動で屋根が開くという事だけをとっても、今までは一部のスポーツカーだけに採用されているだけで、技術面でも価格面でも高級であることは否めなかった。それをデザイン的に妥協することなく、軽自動車初としてこの規格の中に納めたことの完成に至るまでの苦労は察するに余りある。
造形的夢の完成度のみならず、安全に対しての完成度も特筆に値する。たとえば、アンダーボディはブレースの効果的な配置によってクローズドボディを超える剛性を確保し、アッパーボディはアルミ部材の多用により総合的な軽量化を図り、国産乗用車の中でもトップレベルの制動距離を誇っている。 このようなオープントップの車を形にしていくうえで、高剛性化と軽量化という相反する課題をハイレベルに両立した数々の技術的な英知がこの小さなボディには隠されている。そしてまさにデザイナーの気持ちが設計的裏付けをもとに最大限発揮できるように丁寧にデザインされた逸品と言えよう。 |

| One of the characteristics of this car with the ﾒactive topﾓ is that the design combines the dream of both possessing and driving it. So, for example, the roof of the car is opened electrically, and this is a technology normally associated with one particular kind of sports car. This makes the car look expensive from a technical point of view. This car is the first light motor vehicle to have this function as a standard feature. I can imagine that there were many difficulties to overcome in the developing process of this car. This might not only have been the case regarding this dream of a form, but also especially regarding the safety features. The lower part of the car body in itself has to be more stable than the whole body with the top closed. This was achieved by using an effective compound for brazing. Due to the use of a lot of aluminum, the upper part of the body is very light. The car does itself proud with its braking distance, and further features of intelligent technology add to its top position among Japanese cars. That makes the coexistence of contrary features hiding in its small body one of the car's central issues, and this was achieved on a high level. This car is a good product and was designed in a conscientious way.
