この機会に改めてポール・ヘニングセンと＜PH5＞に関する資料に目を通した。
その文面だけでは語り尽くせない奥深い思考と努力、また多くの工夫が有ることを感じ取りおおいに感動してしまった。それは「いかにして人や周囲の物を照らすのが人間の目にとって好ましいか」の追求が、結果、美的にも技術的にも完成された照明を創りあげていると言う事だ。 「人間の目は昼の光から暖かみのある黄昏の柔らかい光にゆっくり順応する、故に家庭の、特に食卓の照明は美しい黄昏の光の延長として捉えるべきだ」との考え方から、赤と青で彩色されたリフレクターに白熱電球の光を補正させるという工夫が施されている。フォルムに関しては、最大限の光を効率良く下方のテーブル面へ向けるため、へニングセンが見出した独自の「対数螺旋形シェード」が組み合わされた。またその効果は照明の基本であるグレアの除去解消にも現れている。 ＜PH5＞は1958年に誕生して以来約半世紀、一貫して変わらないデザインで現代のインテリアにも見事に調和する。照明あるいは光のデザインの域を超え、「人に対する思いやり」という優しさの表れが長きにわたり＜PH5＞が愛される理由なのではないだろうか。 |

| To be able to write a review of the PH5, I got some information about Poul Henningsen and the PH5. I read it thoroughly and I realized how much deep thought, effort and ideas had been invested in the project. In fact there are too many to explain in this brief text. The main investigation during the making of this product was ﾒWhat is better for the human eye: to light up the person himself or the things around him?ﾓ Let's say they created an aesthetically and technically perfect light. They used the idea that ﾒthe human eye effectively adapts from the light at noon to the warm and soft evening light. Therefore the light in the house, especially the dining room light, is an extension of the beautiful evening lightﾓ. This was the basis for an investigation, which resulted in the development of the red and blue colored reflector to correct the incandescent bulb. The actual shape combines the original ﾒlogarithmic spiral shadeﾓ that was discovered by Henningsen. It makes most of the light fall to the table below it with good efficiency, and it is perfect in avoiding a glare, which is basic in lighting, too. There was no change in the design in the nearly half a century since the PH5 was first brought out in 1958. Yet the design still fits well into contemporary interiors. I think the reason why people love the PH5 is that there was consideration for the long timeframe of lighting or lighting design. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
