この鉄鋳物シリーズは＜AL Project＞と言う鋳物を中心としたインテリア小物を、デザイナーが鋳物工場の若手経営者と共同で企画・デザインし製造から販売までを行っているプロジェクトの1シリーズである。
鉄鋳物は400年程前から南部鉄瓶に代表されるように、鋳物職人のノウハウと技により現代においても工芸品としての地位を確立し愛用されているが、その鉄鋳物を新たな切り口で工芸品から生活用品へと生まれ変わらせようと試みたのがこの鉄鋳物シリーズである。
デザイナーが狙ったのは「素のデザイン」で、素材の特性を生かした素朴なデザインにすること、朽ちて味わいのある素敵な商品創りがこの＜AL Project＞で実現されている。
特に湯口と押湯の部分は切断しただけで鋳肌はそのまま残し、湯ジワや湯の流れで生じる色むらもデザインとして取り込み、素材の持つ力と味わいが表現されている様は手にとって見る者に新鮮な驚きを与える。

This set of castings is one series from the ﾒAL Projectﾓ. In this project, designers and young managers from casting factories cooperate on planning, designing and marketing small, mostly cast accessories for the interior. Due to their habitual use in modern times, castings obtained the status of handicrafts the quality of which depends on the skills and the techniques used by the individual craftsman. This series tries to revive this tradition combining it with new ideas for cast metal products for everyday use. The designers aim at premium design, which is characterized by trying to use the qualities of the material and by simplicity. The ﾒAL Projectﾓ realized the production of nice goods that are to patinate and to develop their ﾒfull flavorﾓ over time. The only cuttings are to be found at the gates, i.e. at spouts, for example. In their concept, the designers did not change the castings' surface but incorporated its unevenness at the weld lines, for example, and its irregularity in color, which is caused by hot water flowing over the iron during the production process. This design expresses the power and the aesthetic qualities of the material, as well as a freshness that is full of surprises for the person seeing and handling the products.
