＜スマート＞のデザインはいままでの軽自動車の概念を根底からひっくり返すほど魅力的で、街の中で初めて＜スマート＞に遭遇した人はみな思わずあっと感嘆の声を上げるに違いない。
約2.5メーターの全長は普通乗用車の1/2、エンジンは日本の軽自動車より小さい600ccだが、＜スマート＞は安全性や快適な居住空間などすべての性能を犠牲にすることなく凝縮し、無駄を削ぎ落として新種発見とでも言いたいマイクロビークルに仕立てあがって私たちの前に出現した。 ＜スマート＞のデザインは大型の高級車がどんなに頑張っても持てない上質なユーモアを人々に感じさせて都会で多い大型車1人乗車がいかにスマートでないか街行く人々に気付かせる。そして近い将来、スマートは大都会が抱える深刻な車公害の解決に優れたデザイナーの力量がどれほど役に立つか実証してくれる事になるだろう。 |

| The design of the "Smart" is very fantastic, it turns the concept of the usual light motor vehicle design over. If people see a "Smart" in the city for the first time,they may shout with surprise. The over-all length is about 2.5 m, that is half of a normal automobile. The engine is smaller than in Japanese light motor vehicles. It has 600cc. But the "Smart" is not neglecting the safety functions or comfortable living space. It has nothing useless. That's the reason why the "Smart" appears in front of us as a micro vehicle. It is like discovering a new kind of car. The "Smart" design has a high sense of humor impossible to have with large high class cars. And we can feel that it is not smart to only ride with one person in a large high class car in the big city. And in the near future "Smart" will prove how the power of the designer provides solutions for the deep problem of pollution by cars in the big city. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
