日本でパノラマプリントが一般的化したのは、1989年7月に発売された「コダック・パノラマカメラ」（レンズ付きフィルム機）からだ。その後コンパクトカメラや一眼レフカメラでもパノラマ撮影は当たり前となったが、初めて使い、そのパノラマが「疑似※1」であったことに落胆したことを覚えている。しかし＜Fujifilm TX-1＞は「正真正銘のパノラマ※2」撮影を可能にした。それも1本のフィルム上で従来の24×36mmとパノラマ24×65mmの両フォーマットが混在できるという、撮影者の要求に柔軟に対応できる方式だ。ジャパンオリジナルなスタンダードとして大いに賞賛できよう。
「フルパノラマの世界を多くの人に」をコンセプトに開発が進められる中、デザインからの回答は「道具としての愛着」だった。「カメラ」という概念を見事に表現した外観デザイン、チタンとラバーグリップのしっとりとしたボディー、黒色の中に十分な大きさで表示された白文字のアナログ式ダイヤル。また、オプションで用意されたウォ−ルナット製グリップは、「愛着」の重要な要素とも言える「感触」に拘った末の、デザインからの提案で決定されたものだという。定評の同社中判カメラのデザイン品質を余すところなくそそぎ込んだ逸品である。 ※1＝35mm画面（24×36mm）の上下をマスクし、中央を14×36mmの撮影エリアをとしたもの。 |

| Panorama prints became common when the "Kodak Panorama Camera" (film camera with lens) was released in July 1989. Afterwards, it was normal to take panoramas with compact cameras or single-lens reflex cameras. But when it was used the first time, these panoramas were "fake [footnote 1]". This discouraged me. But the "Fujifilm TX-1" is capable of photographing "genuine panoramas [footnote 2]". Beyond that, it can mix two formats on only one film. It can photograph the usual 24 x 36mm and 24 x 65mm panoramas on only one film. This method fits to the user's demands. It can be admired as a Japanese original standard. Now, the concept is developing the "world of full panorama for lots of people". In this condition, the answer by the designer is "a tool with attachment to the people". The concept "camera" is expressed by the outlook design, the body is made of titanium with rubber grips and an analog dial which has big white characters on a black background. The designer decided to prepare walnut wood grips as an option. The reason why is, that "touching" is an important element for getting "attached". The design quality of medium sized cameras from the same company has established an opinion. The design of this camera has it of all.
