20世紀の偉大な発明の一つに「プラスチック」が挙げられよう。自由な形状をつくる魔法の素材ゆえにさまざまなモノへ積極的に使われてきた。しかしその反動として環境問題を引き起こす一因となってしまったのもこのプラスチックである。これらの多くは、生産性向上やコストダウンの目的で「代用素材」扱いされ、素材の本質を生かすような使われ方は少なかった。
この＜水差し PM151＞はメラミン樹脂によるコンプレッション成形で製作され、厚肉で深型成形による適度な重量感とシンプルで飽きのこないデザインを特徴としている。 「代用素材」ではなくメラミン樹脂の特性を十二分に生かした成功例と思う。 ストレートな円柱に緩やかに美しく弧を描く注ぎ口、注ぎ良い取っ手形状、また業務用時のスタッキングへの配慮にもデザインの工夫がなされている。 1980年の発売以来100万個以上を販売したという。20年間現役商品となっているのも頷ける存在感だ。 |

| One of the great inventions of the 20th century is "plastic". With it, we can freely make shapes. It looks like a magic material. That's why plastic is actively used to make things. But there is the reaction that it is a cause of the environmental problem. Often it becomes a "substitution material" with the purpose to increase productivity and reduce costs. That is not utilizing the essence of the material. The "Pitcher PM151" is produced from compression casted melamine resin. It has a moderate thick and heavy character and the design is simple and not tiresome. It is not a "substitution material" but one of the examples of successful use of the character of melamine resin. There are design considerations. The spout curves beautiful and softly from the straight column. The handle's shape is good for pouring. And it gives consideration for a stacking system in business time. A stock of 10 millions have been sold since 1980. It is an active duty product since 20 years. This shows the unanimous approval to its existence. |
